This article is the ultimate guide to shopping for bras when you have larger breasts. You’ll find out what to look for and which brands offer bras in your size. You can also scroll down for a list of our 10 recommended bras for large breasts.

Buying The Right Size

First things first when buying new bras: you have to measure yourself and make sure you’re buying the right size. Not sure if you’re wearing the correct bra size? Follow my step-by-step measuring guide.

“Plus Size” or “Full Figure”?

Do you know if you’re looking for a “plus size” bra or a “full figure” bra? There’s a big difference. Plus size refers to the band size. There’s no standard definition, but “plus size” will begin at a band size of 40. On the other hand, “full figure” or “full bust” refers to the cup size.

If you have large breasts and wear a DD cup or higher, you’re looking for “full figure” bras. Your size might also fit into both categories (for example if you’re a 42F).

Why is it such a pain to find “full figure” bras?

Many mainstream bra stores stop their sizes at a D cup (and rarely, a DD cup). This means that they choose not to offer “full figure” options for larger-busted ladies. Why? Because it’s not cost-effective for them. Full figure bras are designed differently than those in standard sizes.

Simply put, it saves bra companies a lot of money, since the fuller-bust clientele is generally falsely measured at a lower size which is “good enough”, and “forced” into bras that are much too small!

Top 10 Recommended Brands

The following brands offer full figure bras in cup sizes DD+. The list is no particular order, as every bra model will fit differently depending on your shape and size. Take a look at our guide to finding your breast shape to determine which styles are best for you.

Most of the brands below can be purchased through Amazon, which is our retailer of choice if you live in the United States. Amazon offers free shipping and free returns, which means you can try on your bras risk-free.

Another of our recommended option is Her Room, which is one of the biggest online retailers. They ship internationally and offer free shipping above $70 to the United States.

When you’re bra-shopping, we recommend searching for the following brands:

  1. Panache (and Cleo by Panache)
  2. Freya
  3. Wacoal
  4. Chantelle
  5. Fantasie
  6. Le Mystere
  7. Goddess
  8. Curvy Kate
  9. Elomi (larger band sizes, starting at 34)
  10. Cacique (larger band sizes, starting at 36)

Top 10 Recommended Bras

Since breasts come in different shapes and sizes, it’s important to know your unique breast shape before purchasing a new bra. Some of the following bras provide a better fit for “full on bottom breasts, and some for “full of top” breasts. When this is the case, it will be noted in the description.

Note: None of the following bras are minimizers. If you’re looking for a minimizer bra to make your chest appear smaller, please check out this article.

The Lucy bra by Cleo is a balconette bra, but it works perfectly with larger breasts and won’t give you unwanted bulge. The extra embroidery takes care of offering more coverage, and it gives great support. It works best with breasts that are fuller on bottom (below the nipple) because of the cup shape.

04. Cleo Marcie Balconette Bra

The Marcie Bra by Cleo is another balconette bra, but its design is different than the Lucy (above). Its construction provides enough support for larger breasts (it comes in cup sizes up to J!) and it will fit breasts that are full on top the best. It’s available in multiple colors.

A longline bra is a bra with a wider band, which provides more comfort and support when you have large breasts. This one from Freya has a 5-hook closure in the back. It’s softly lined for definition and lift, and it has a beautiful lace construction. I recommended you look into more longline bras if you have larger breasts, so take a look at this guide.

This is a top-rated bra by women of all sizes, but it’s especially great for those with larger breasts. The only downside (and the reason why it’s so low on the list) is the limited size availability. Unfortunately, Wacoal only makes the BodySuede bra in cup sizes C to DDD (even though they call this one a “full figure” bra).
